Protect your Assets

We usually think of assets in terms of finances but there is more.

  1. Your Facebook/ Twitter/ IG/ LinkedIn account(s): Ever more wondered why more and more accounts are getting hacked everyday? Why would anyone be interested in your account? even with your “ordinary 500 followers”? Dont you see? It is an asset! It is your voice! It is your platform. Change your passwords every 6–9 months and ensure you activate the 2-step verification especially if its a business account. Dont worry about what you are posting for now or becoming an online influencer. Just protect your asset(s). The team at Extrafemi and I have spent some time researching solutions and here is our recommendations:
  • Please change your password (if you dont already use a alpha-numeric password)
  • Setup a reminder to change password every 6–9 months
  • Setup a 2-step authentication on all your online accounts
  • Use fingerprint login…where you can

2. Your reputation and personal brand: These days, we post anything, anyhow, anywhere. One girl somewhere is twerking, we post. One boy somewhere is showing off his chest, we RT. Quick Q: Have you googled yourself lately? What did you find? No matter what you say, it is what the internet says about you that everyone sees and holds on to. Are you taking your online profile seriously? Are you updating it? Over 70% of employers and embassies these days hire/ give visas based on your online profile i.e they google you and make a decision based on what google tells them. If you plan to relocate, you CANNOT be messing around online anyhow. Protect and invest in that asset.

3. Your relationships: These days, we are drunk on cheap gossip, clout, clapbacks, trends and similar shallowness. If you didn't know, relationships with people is an asset. You must make time to create them, to nurture them, to support and invest in them. This doesn't mean you become a sycophant or have “herd mentality”. I support and love my friends a lot but I also tell them to sit up if they are acting silly/ dont have sense. Learn how to manage relationships in the workplace, church, family, boardrooms et al. This is also an asset

All the best.
