I was the first Nigerian Interviewed on live National Television in the TRNC
So I got interviewed on National Television…
Hi, it’s been a while since you heard from me. I have been well, and busy and somehow ended up on National Television (for the first time in my life) in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The TRNC = Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also known knows North Cyprus or Northern Cyprus- If you have never heard of it, don’t worry. It is a defacto country that is recognized only by Turkey at the moment and yes, there is a Nigerian community here, nearly estimated 15,000 strong but I digress.
In 2019, I started what would become a long series of efforts to impact the lives of other Nigerians, international students, and locals. Those efforts eventually cascaded into what would become “Olmak”- a platform to create awareness about the opportunities in tech, a community to support interested parties and share opportunities, and a structure to enable collaboration with relevant partners and stakeholders. Unlike my previous efforts, this didn’t go unnoticed, and soon, I was invited to be a guest on a Turkish show called “Girişimcinin Dünyası”, which means “Entrepreneurs World”.

Tech-TRNC is live…
As I mentioned above, Tech-TRNC is live. Despite the prevailing challenges for the TRNC’s economy, international students in North Cyprus are teaming up with me to form “Olmak”-. We believe it to be the first tech community in North Cyprus, and we hope to create awareness among university students of the evolving possibilities in the tech world and to position themselves ready to leverage the growing employment and business opportunities.
Because the process of pivoting into tech is largely a personal one, fraught with several limitations: from access to laptops, internet costs, and power to the cost of online courses (depending on the skill one seeks to learn) and general discouragement as some skills could be daunting at first.
